Somali Y Haplogroups

Hey everyone, here’s a quick summary of the latest updates:

  • The Somali T sample added his clan info as Habar Jeclo and formed a branch with the other Habar Jeclo T-FTG90685.
  • A new Somali Big Y kit with J-FTE81181 showed up on FTDNA, if anyone knows who this brother is, please invite him to join YFull.
  • A Majeerteen > Cabdul Raxiim Saleebaan tester has received his Big Y results and is now placed under E-BY8085 on FTDNA. If he comes to YFull, he will form a branch with the other Cabdul Raxiim Saleebaan.
  • The two Harti Abgaal kits formed a new branch on FTDNA E-FT76791 (not yet published).
  • There’s another an unknown kit under E-FT18121 on FTDNA. @Koombe. @BluSkee any ides who this might belong to?
  • @BluSkee your uncle formed a branch with the kit without a flag E-FTH8873 (not yet published), and then formed another branch on his own (or possibly with the unknown kit) under E-FTH5508 (not yet published). Hopefully both of those unknown kits will make it to YFull.
The new unknown kit I am talking about is one of the two Somali flags on this image, the other one is the Xawaadle on YFull.

Thank you wll for the update! Great to hear we have more samples on full!

The sample that is close to my uncle with haplo E-FTH8873 might be Isaaq, but I am not too sure. We have invited him to join yfull. He is still learning up on the process and looking over his results and Somaliy.com. The other kit, 1030498 will most likely match one of the two. Maybe that upcoming Big Y result caused the change?

The new sample with J-FTE81181 is Majeerteen but could be Cali Xijijile a group associated with Tumaal/Birmaal that live in Puntland. We have invited him to yfull as well. Plan to follow up with both brothers after giving them time to digest the info. Hopefully they share their clan info in those sections if they are comfortable.

Thanks @BluSkee for sharing this information, it is exciting to see a possible Isaaq sample showing up in that branch. That’s a great development.

I agree that ****498 will most likely end up matching your uncle. It’s possible his kit triggered the change, but I think that’s unlikely since his results are still processing and he hasn’t received a new haplotype yet (he’s still listed as E-M35). The recent updates were probably caused by another sample already under E-FT18121. As shown in the image I shared earlier, there are already three Somali samples under E-FT18121, and ****498 isn’t among them.

And yes, giving everyone some time to digest the new findings and explore their results at their own pace is definitely the right approach. These discoveries can take time to fully sink in.

Thanks @Malawax for the info, I don't know the new sample. but i hope he shares his info once he joins yfull and Somaliy.
Awoowe E-16639 offspring is getting super interesting by the day.

Absolutely, things are getting interesting, it’s been a great year so far with a couple of good surprises. Hopefully more people will do the Big Y test, the more data we have, the clearer the picture becomes.

The two Xawaadle samples formed a new subclade on YFull E-Y638752

@BluSkee f you can reach the new Xawaadle, please ask him to add his country, region, and clan info to his profile.

Hope all is well wll! Thanks for the update🙏🏾.

Insha Allah we will tell the new Xawaadle brother to update his info and guide him if needed!

Xawaadle > Cali Madaxwayne brother ordered Big Y-700 upgrade a couple of weeks ago and should be getting his Y-111 results later this week or early next week.
His Y-67 results leaned toward the Hiraab group under E-FT77328, and the SAPP tool now places him in that group. It’ll be interesting to see where he lands once his Big Y results come in.

Here’s how SAPP currently places him:

Very interesting. The fact that he matches with the Hiraab brothers on FTDNA at lower markers and the other Xawaadle brothers don’t stands out to me too. Who knows maybe he is the missing link to connect everyone or create a different branch!

Thanks for sharing. Can’t wait to see his results!

Asc @Malawax new Xawaadle sample from FTDNA is on yfull now-kit YF141498. He requested he be added to SomaliY insha Allah. I told him to complete the country of origin section and he would be added.
Do you know why he has the yellow info button and the two SNPs next to it?

Also the Aw Hassan brother was moved maybe temporarily to E-Y227096.

ASC sister @BluSkee. I added him to SomaliY, thanks for all you do for the community.

He has the yellow info icon because Y484733 is a T2T-only SNP and his VCF is based on HG38 reference, YFull can’t confirm that SNP, so they mark it as “possibly positive.”

Yes, the Aw-Xassan brother is temporarily under E-Y227096. They’re likely re-running the matching process, as they’ve done before for other samples.

Thank you @Malawax! I’m sent him the information! Appreciate you.

Do you think upgrading it to T2T would be beneficial? Wondering if it could change anything. Getting the big Y is already so pricey so I don’t like to push testers to pay an additional $99 you know.

Also curious as to why the yellow icon isn’t next to my uncle’s sample as well?

If he can afford it, I’d say yes, upgrading to T2T is worth it. It won’t change his placement, but it can help identify additional shared SNPs with your uncle and possibly with future testers.

Your uncle doesn’t have the yellow icon because his BAM is already mapped to the T2T reference and he is negative for the single SNP that currently defines E-Y484733.

Jzk, insha Allah will let him know!
